For some ladies, growing long hair just comes naturally. For those that were not blessed with such luscious tresses, growing out our hair takes patience, hard work, and making several changes in our hair care routine. If you’ve felt discouraged by your hair growth, or lack thereof, there’s no need to jump for extensions right away! There are some easy changes you can make to your daily routine to encourage hair growth, and if you have damaged hair, these changes can help boost the general health of your hair too! So, without further ado, here are some tips on how to grow out you hair faster!
1.- Get Trims Frequently!
“But… isn’t that counter-productive?” Not at all! While haircuts may not directly help your hair grow faster, they get rid of the damaged, dead ends that cause breakage. Eliminating breakage gives your hair the appearance of growing faster as it grows in healthier than before! A split end that decides to break off leads to loss of hair length, shine, smoothness, and volume. The optimal amount of time between trims is about 6 to 8 weeks, so make sure to book your appointments in advance. You can book a haircut with us today right here!
2.- Don’t Go into the Light!
No matter how awesome being blonde might seem, going from a darker color to lighter shade could be what stands between you and the Rapunzel hair you’ve always dreamed of. When you bleach your hair to have highlights, a balayage, ombre, or to go platinum blonde, the cuticles of your strands are blown apart, which can cause breakage. Too many chemical processes can also leave your hair extremely dry, which slows down growth. To help correct damage, you can try a deep conditioning treatment to help bring moisture and shine back into your hair! The fewer chemical treatments, the better your hair will grow, and the healthier it will be.
3.- Use Your Hair’s Natural Oils to Your Advantage.
Going to bed with tangled hair is tempting after a long, tiring day, but brushing it out before bedtime is wonderful for your hair’s health. If you use a boar bristle brush, starting at the scalp, you can brush your hair out to distribute its natural oils as evenly as possible, which will keep your hair naturally moisturized! You should also resist the urge to wash your hair everyday, if you can help it. Washing your hair every day with strong shampoo gets rid of these natural oils your hair needs to stay healthy! Washing your hair every other day is the best option, and you can rinse with cool water to make your hair color last longer.
4.- Eat Healthy!
Keeping your hair strong, healthy, and growing isn’t just about the products you put in your hair; it’s about what nutrients you give your body, too! Eating a protein-heavy diet as well as eating foods that are high in vitamins A, C, and E, minerals like zinc and iron, and omega-3 fatty acids encourage healthy skin, as well as healthy hair and nails! If you struggle getting this minerals in your diet, you can also try supplements containing these vitamins.
5.- No More “Cleanses”.
There are thousands of advertisements out there trying to tell you that doing a trendy cleanse will completely change your life, but don’t listen to them! Doing a cleanse deprives your body of necessary nutrients, both for hair growth and more important functions. After doing a cleanse, you’ll notice less growth, and that your hair has grown dull.
6.- Treat Your Hair like You’d Treat Your Skin.
I know it may sound strange, but often times a product will treat your skin like it treats your hair. It’s easy to see that a product adds shine to your locks and assume it’s improving the health of your hair, but that’s not always the case. If a product makes your skin feel dry, sticky, or greasy, the product is most likely doing the same to your hair. If you’re using a product that causes your hair to be greasy or waxy, it may be congesting your hair follicles, causing your hair to grow slowly and ineffectively. (Just like a greasy skin product can clog pores and cause acne, it will do the same in your hair!)
And that, my friends, is a list of six ways you can encourage healthy, fast hair growth. Take care of your body, and treat your hair well! May you have long hair in no time.
PEACE!
