What’s up Arizona family?! The TouchUps Beauty Blog is back with a post just for you! The TouchUps team thought it was super important to reach out to you, our local AZ readers, with some hair care tips specifically for you! Fall is here (technically), and it’s time to start taking care of our luscious locks a little bit differently. During the Summer, if you’ve been following our previous hair care tips, you had probably been skipping some essential parts of your hair routine; and now it’s time to add those things back in! If you’re an AZ native, you know that our Autumn weather doesn’t truly start until about November or late October, so you should still maintain a routine that promotes hydration and and protection from the heat, but I’ve got some extra tips for the cooler weather, too! So here are some hair care tips to keep your hair healthy during an Arizona Autumn.
1.- Let Your Hair Down!
During our INSANELY hot AZ summers, a girl’s ponytail is her best friend. When we’re sweating 24/7, keeping your hair off of your neck is priority, right? It’s a quick, cute, cool style, but putting your hair up in a tight ponytail all the time can cause breakage in your hair as well as scalp stress. (Hence the ponytail headaches.) As the weather gets a little colder, start wearing your hair down a little more, or maybe try a half-up-half-down hairdo!
2.- It’s Time to Bring Back the Hot Tools!
During the Summer, most stylists will recommend that you give the hot tools a rest, and let your hair air dry as often as you can. As the days get a little cooler, it’s less likely you’ll want to leave the house with wet hair, so bust out those hot tools! When you blow dry, don’t forget to use a heat protectant, like the Melu Hair Shield or the Blow Dry Primer from Davines to prevent dryness and breakage. As you start to wear your hair down more, feel free to play with a curling iron or a flat iron to give yourself a fresh Fall look!
3.- Get a Haircut!
No matter the weather, you should always get a trim at least every 8 to 12 weeks to keep your hair healthy. Lots of time in the sun and the pool over the Summer can leave your hair dry and damaged, and if you’re trying to grow out your hair, it’s important to chop off those split ends! The longer your hair is, the more susceptible it is to breakage, so do whatever you can to keep those locks healthy. A change of season is also a great time to try out a new hair style all together! If you need a change, consult your stylist about what new style they think might work for you.
4.- Keep Those Locks Moisturized!
Although we won’t be suffering 100 degree weather for much longer, our Fall and Winter are still going to be pretty dry. So, if you haven’t already, invest in a mask or deep conditioner like the Nounou Hair Mask or Olapex No. 3 to breathe life into those gorgeous tresses. You can use these deep conditioning treatments biweekly by letting the product sit in your damp hair for 10 minutes, and then rinsing it out. Using deep conditioners will protect you from moisture-zapping heaters, breakage from increased use of styling tools, and brisk winds that will dry out your hair! These products will also help combat static, tangles, and breakage that wearing scarves and hats can cause.
5.- Try a Darker Color
Sun-kissed highlights are a Summer staple, but as the days get shorter, and we spend less time outside, those highlights will begin to fade. To make the transition easier, try dying your hair a darker color! Reds and dark browns are always very stylish in the Autumn months. Going darker will also keep your hair healthier by skipping the bleach. You can also save some money, as a darker color will need less maintenance than those blonde highlights!
Now, get ready to bust out the comfy sweaters, beanies, scarves, and the pumpkin spice; it’s time for FALL!
