Hey ya’ll! It’s September already!!! You know what that means, right? Starbucks is busting out the pumpkin spice, stores are restocking comfy sweaters, and we’re all dreaming of wearing cute boots again. (Although here in Arizona, we know it won’t be cold enough for “fall” clothing until after Halloween… We can dream.) We’re about two weeks away from it officially being Autumn, so it’s time to think about some new hair color!
Something about the pace of August may leave you wanting a little more time for yourself. The kids are going back to school, moms and dads are back to work after vacation, and everyone is settling into a new routine. So, while our summer highlights look great at the beach, the upkeep can be too much! Because of this, lots of us are looking for something a little warmer and darker for fall; like a warm balayage or a shadow root on our highlights.
If you can relate to the hair maintenance struggle, you’ll love these trending looks for this fall! So, from beautiful golden blondes to rooted blonde looks, there’s a fall hairstyle out there for everyone. Without further ado, let’s check out the trending hair color for fall 2019.
Hair colors like Autumn leaves…
1.- Brunette with Golden Highlights
This look is phenomenal for anyone who has a really dark brown base because the gold highlights instantly give the hair dimension! This golden brunette trend makes it really easy for you to transition your highlights into something a little more subtle for fall; just be sure to keep your lifted pieces towards your ends. Additionally, this look can also be achieved by added low-lights to your highlighted hair!
2.- Honey Highlights
When you’re looking for a low maintenance look, it’s important to think about color contrast! In other words, it’s important to consider your natural base tone against your highlights or low-lights. A warm honey blonde like the one pictured above looks beautiful against a darker root and gives the hair a really natural looking brightness.
If you’re hair is curly, you’ll want to make sure that your stylist takes larger sections for the highlights than normal! This is because as your hair curls, it will actually cause some parts of the color to appear lighter or more dull. Nobody wants that!
3.- Bright but Rooted!
Blondes have more fun, right? If you’re all about those blonde looks, then this fall trend is for you! The subtly-rooted warmer blondes with tones of yellow and gold are definitely on-trend for this fall. A lot of blondes like to blonde year-round, but shadow-rooted looks are getting more and more popular!
This is because rooted looks are WAY less maintenance than just your average highlights. You’ll still get that bright look you love without the hassle of visiting the salon once a month! Additionally, golden tones are a beautiful transition from summer to fall.
4.- Gingerbread/Caramel Highlights
Warm reds and coppers are pretty old news in terms of fall color trends, but this fall’s take on it is far from the norm. This fall’s trendy red tones are leaning more towards soft-brown-meets-red! These gingerbread-caramel tones can give any base tone a warm, rich depth. Our suggested way to wear this trend is to keep your roots natural and keep the tone to your ends or money pieces around the face! A little bit of warmth in your hair can keep your skin glowing even in the dark months!
5.- Blended Ombré
That’s right, the ombre is making a come back! This look was super popular in the fall of 2017, and it’s looking like it may overtake the balayage this fall. An ombre is a wonderful fall hairstyle because there are ENDLESS options for color! However, the go-to ombre for those that want to keep their hair color as natural-looking as possible would be a blonde tone like the one shown above. An ombre also requires very little maintenance, and offers an easy grow-out process!
An ombre will look great on any base tone as long as your stylist is well-versed in the technique. The brightness should generally start right beneath the bangs, but some stylists are starting to blend some color into the bangs as well! If you’re looking to have an ombre done, I HIGHLY recommend bringing pictures of what you’d like to see, and ask your stylist for “a smooth transition from shafts to ends”.
